I have 4 Okuma V3016 Machining Centers with OSP U10M controllers. The machines are very limited in memory. I want to drip feed large programs into them, but they are not equipped with the DNC-B option. My Okuma rep wants $6000 per machine to install the DNC-B option. Is there anyone that modifies these machines to accept drip feeding for a lower cost or does anyone know of a less expensive way to increase the memory capacity of our machines? |

Does it have an RS-232 serial port on it?
Does it have a tape reader on it? |

If it has a tape rader on it then we can put what is called a BTR in it, it emulates the paper tape reader.
That will let you run long programs.
Let us know. |

We use Predator DNC software and we use it to split up our long programs automatically with their "Send Increment" object and then we have to load and run each increment.
Works OK for us. _________________ --------------------------

My machines do have an RS-232 ports on them, but I do not have a tape reader. Does anyone have a suggestion as where I should purchase a tape reader and how much they might cost? What other software will I need to use a tape reader?
Thanks, you have been a big help already. |

A BTR would be cheeper then a tape reader.
The key thing is to check to see if the machine control has the electronics to connect a tape reader, and thus a BTR. If not, then it is all a mute point. |

You WILL NEED the DNC-B option.
This is a problem that goes way back and Okuma has got you where they want you. You must buy the DNC-B option to drip feed, what a great way to generate revenue. There are no trade secrets you must buy DNC B from Okuma. _________________ Dawn Mitchell
