Our forman wants to shaire bar code guns. He also wants to use bar codes, so he is looking at getting guns, but he does not want to get 10 guns because of the total price. He asked if he could "share" the guns because some of the machines will be running long runs and they don't need to have them on there all the time. He was basically thinking that his setup man could take a gun with him and plug it into the machine that he is setting up and download the code when he is ready. I said he could do that but that we would have to manually turn off one port and turn on another wherever he is taking it from and going to.

Is there a way to take a port out of remote and start up another one, all from the port that is to be shut down? My thought was to scan somehting that shut down that port then starts up the one he is going to go to. Otherwise we could maybe go with some sort of wireless bar code device.

Any thoughts?

You can share a gun, we recommend a gun per cell. Typically you only have one guy working in a cell anyway. You can setup the gun to share a port with the CNC or dedicate a port to the gun this is your choice. You can not have a remote request come in one port and have it shutdown and startup another port we used to support this with CANCEL LOAD vs. just a simple CANCEL but it got way too confusing and most people could not figure it out.

FYI, The only downside to sharing a gun with a dedicated port is that you have one machien with multiple send command so the system is setup like a switchbox with the gun as the switch box. This means that you cannot dripfeed to multiple CNCs at the same time. If this is not a problem then go for it. It works great!
