Publisher's description of: Free TrueType Code 39 Barcode Font From IDAutomation: http://www.idautomation.com/

(CNET Trusts IDAutomation)
(McAfee has tested this site and found no significant problems.)

The easy-to-install and use Free Code 39 Barcode Font by IDAutomation.com allows the ability to print barcodes with the Code 3 of 9 symbology. The installation includes examples for use in Microsoft Access, Excel and Word. This new version includes technology embedded in the font to print extremely accurate ANSI grade A barcodes. TrueType and OpenType fonts are provided supporting Windows, Macintosh, and Linux.

To make text scannable, place an asterisk before and after the text and select the barcode font.

Version 6.10 is Microsoft Vista compatible.

Click Here to go to download page

To install the TrueType barcode font in Windows, run the INSTALL.EXE program in the ZIP file download or perform the following for manual installation:

Click on Start, Select settings and click on Control Panel.
Click on Fonts, Click on File in the main tool bar, select Install New Font.
Select the folder where the Code 39 font was placed.
The Code 39 barcode font will appear and look like this: IDAutomationHC39M (true type) - select this font and Click on OK.
Click Start and choose to shut down and restart the computer.
The Code 39 font should be active when the computer is restarted.

Using the Code 39 Barcode Font:
To create the correct output for the Code 39 barcode font, the data must be appended with an asterisk as the start and stop characters, for example *153969*. In Microsoft Word, the start and stop characters should be "!" instead of the asterisk because of a formatting issue. For example: !153969!. To suppress the asterisks from being visible below the barcode, use "(" and ")" instead at the beginning and ending of each barcode.

If the barcode font is not viewable in font selection list of the application after installation, check the application settings. Most applications allow the ability to disable a feature that lists font names in their font. For example, in Microsoft Office if the font is not viewable in font selection list, follow these steps:

In Microsoft Office, choose Customize on the Tools menu.
On the Options tab, deselect the "list font names in their font" check box.
Click close.

Code 39 Symbology Overview

Code 39 is a common barcode type that is used for various labels, such as name badges, inventory and industrial applications. The symbology of the Code 39 character set consists of barcode symbols representing characters 0-9, A-Z and the space character and the following symbols: - . $ / + %. In addition, the full 128 ASCII character set can be encoded in Code 39.

The Code 39 barcode is the easiest of the alpha-numeric barcodes to use and is designed for character self-checking, thus eliminating the need for check character calculations. Code 39 is also known as the 3 of 9 Code, barcode/39 and Code 3 of 9. Several standards exist that dictate how Code 39 barcodes should be printed for certain implementations. Although a checksum character is optional, many standards require it. The checksum character is a type of MOD43 calculation provided in many of IDAutomation’s font tools for the Code 39 Barcode Fonts. Enabling the check digit option in IDAutomation's Barcode Components and Applications allows the component to automatically generate and include the MOD43 checksum.

The following standards based on Code 39 require MOD43 check digits:

LOGMARS (Logistics Applications of Automated Marking and Reading Symbols) is a standard based on Code-39 used by the United States Department of Defense. LOGMARS is defined by Military Standard MIL-STD-1189B and others such as MIL-STD-129, MIL-STD-2073-1C and MIL-STD-129N.
HIBC (Health Industry Barcode) is a barcode label used in the health care product industry. Several implementations of HIBC also use Code 128.
The complete Code 39 barcode consists of a start character, data digits, an optional check character and a stop character.
