|
|
I get this error randomly when receiving from the CNC using RR.
1) grizzly cable (150ft), with flex N hub(rj45) to DB25 (4-5, 6-8-20).
2) only on receive.
3) fanuc 18i and 21i controls (10 in total)
4) happens on two machines so far.
5) 9600, 7, e, 2, software.
6) can s/r with old pc (win95, procomm+, manual switch box, old cable)
7) send works OK.
latest drivers and firmware for FlexN
9) WinXP, new computer with hardware firewall.
Any suggestions on what to check, test.
Thanks,
Sammy

What IS the error you are getting? You never stated it.
Also, when you say: "2) only on receive." do you mean uploading from the CNC or Downloading to the CNC? |

The error is 086, DR signal off. This is a Fanuc control error.
2) DL to CNC. |

That is Data Ready which is one of the jumpers you have, 4+5, 6+8+20.
Make sure they are good and tight, I had a case where when I put in the connector one of the pins would push out but when I pulled it off it would pull it back out so that it looked good.
You might want to re-crimp those pins.
Another thought is do you have Software flow control turned on? Is the other software using hardware flow? Double check that.
Let us know how it goes. |

4-5 are soldered.
6-8-20 are soldered.
New db25 connectors, new rj45 connections, UPS power supply on FlexN hub.
Software flow control is used on RR, send to CNC and Receive from CNC.
What should the voltage measure of 4-5 or 6-8-20 when idle, when receiveing?
Is there a way to measure/filter Interference over rs-232? |

No good way to measure interference on the cable, but with the Grizzly you should not be getting any.
Is there a serial port on the PC that you could use to test the same cable?
Also, use an Ohm meter to check that the jumpers actually are good: 4+5, 6+8+20. Wiggle them around.
It is odd that you get it when you are going from the CNC to the PC, since the PC generally never sends out too many signals, it just "takes it all in" so to speak.
Also, what are the parameters on the machine?
Is the Flex/N settings set for each port to be "printer?" |

Sorry, my mistake, it randomly gives the error when going PC to CNC.
Never gives error CNC to PC.
Flex/N is set for RealPort, is on UPS battery backup.
Parameters are from the Fanuc 18-21i setup sheet from Predator. I also checked other setup sheets, all parameters were the same.
4-5, 6-8-20 are good, checked, and re-soldered the connections between them.
Curious, which pin, 6,8 or 20 is the voltage pin, so to say, that provides the voltage to the other pins? What should it be? |

The voltage should be less then 12 volts, generally around +-5. As someone suggested, Ohm out the jumper pins to make sure they are really working, just looking at them is not enough. If you Ohm them out, the reading can vary but what is important is that you get some reading. Sometimes when soldering what looks good really is not conductive.
Also make sure that the machine is not really set to use hardware handshaking.
If a different cable actually works, then the new cable must not work. If you are using that cable with the other software, then the settings are not correct on the DNC side. Try disabling DSR & DTR in the DNC side.
086 DR SIGNAL OFF When entering data in the memory by using Reader / Puncher interface, the ready signal (DR) of reader / puncher was turned off. Power supply of I/O unit is off or cable is not connected or a P.C.B. is defective. _________________ I'd rather be making chairs. |

I connected my laptop to the cable to the CNC, and it worked fine, was able to download a very large file to the CNC with no errors. Cable, parameters, and software must be OK.
It must be in the Flex/N -16 or something over the IP network. I'm using the latest driver (4.1.353.0) from Digi, and the firmware is the latest also.
Settings on the Flex/N are Realport, is there anything else to set in the hub?
I got the same error using my laptop or the desktop computer to run the Flex/N Hub, so I don't think it is the computer settings. Would there be something in the Network firewall?
I'm going to try the Flex/N directly to the laptop with a crossover Cat5 cable, to eliminate the network/router/firewall.
Any other ideas? |

Might try going back to a known working version of the dirver.
Here is the link to download it from Predator that they know that works.
