Q: When I try to open a database (or any file) on a mapped drive it pops up a window saying that "Microsoft Access Cannot Open this file. This file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site." and it will not let me edit it.
A: Windows does not trust the source of the file your are trying to open. This often occurs after an upgrade to Win XP. You need to tell windows to trust this site.- Open Internet Explorer
- On the menu bar click Tools-->Internet Options
- Click the Security Tab
- Click Trusted Sites (it is an image of a green circle with a checkmark in it)
- Then click the Sites... button
- Add the site name to the list of trusted sites, ie enterprise.business.nd.edu or \\MyServer
(make sure you use just the site name and do not add 'http://' before it)
- Click Add
- Make sure the checkbox at the bottom that is labeled 'Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone' is not checked
- Click OK on the 2 windows, and close out Internet Explorer
You should now be able to open up the database |
